Dirk Girschik is one of the most versatile directors
in the current world of opera.
Born in Dresden and now based in Berlin, he discovered his passion for music at an early age
— first as a pianist, then as an electric bassist in bands and as a double bassist in the Cottbus Youth Symphony Orchestra. After studying electrical engineering at TU Dresden, he spent seven years gaining invaluable experience as a sound engineer in the theatre before embarking on his directing career in 2014.

At the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and the Theater Academy August Everding in Munich, he honed his conceptual approach and developed his distinctive directorial competence.

His humorous, child-friendly reinterpretation of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Bayreuther Festspiele
— later performed at the Spring Festival in Tokyo — earned him enthusiastic reviews in renowned publications such as The New York Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Tōkyō Shimbun.

His productions – Offenbach’s La belle Hélène at the Landestheater Niederbayern, Eight Songs for a Mad King at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, The soldier's tale – Le Diable boiteux at the Staatstheater Braunschweig and
Tom Johnson’s Riemannoper at Freiraum Berlin – were highly acclaimed by audiences.
Likewise the Marilyn Monroe musical Marilyn – Träume, Sex und Hollywood at the Uckermärkischen Bühnen Schwedt and Die Comedian Harmonists at the Theater Neue Bühne Senftenberg   were warmly celebrated.

Dirk Girschik also staged his own compositions, such as Das Erdbeben in Chili (text by Heinrich von Kleist) and paradies fluten (text by Thomas Köck) at the Prinzregententheater in Munich.
Several of his productions remain a popular part of theater repertoires today.

Before establishing himself as a director, he worked as a production manager and assistant director at many of the aforementioned theaters, as well as at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin and the Haus für Mozart in Salzburg.

Dirk Girschik would like to express his special thanks to Calixto Bieito, Katharina Wagner, Sebastian Baumgarten, Andrea Moses, Jossi Wieler, Sergio Morabito, Hasko Weber, Dirk Schmeding, Bettina Auer, Claus Unzen, Martin G. Berger, Andreas Homoki, Tatjana Gürbaca, Sven Holm and Jan-Philipp Gloger for their collaboration, support and influence on the development of his artistic profile.
